The history of Roosevelt Warm Springs is about more than just Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Although its famous founder ranks among the preeminent Americans ever and Roosevelt Warm Springs remains “his living legacy,” this story started much earlier and involves one of mankind’s greatest medical achievements.
Nevertheless, there’s no denying the influence FDR had during 41 visits to West Central Georgia and the impact he made on such things as polio treatment, research, and rehabilitation in general.
Famous visitors through the years have included Betty Davis, Jack Dempsey, Bobby Jones, Jonas Salk, Helen Hayes, John F. Kennedy, Jimmy Carter, John Glenn, Bill Clinton, Kathy Bates, Cynthia Nixon and many others.
